Volunteering for Wildlife at London Zoo

As part of our new partnership with Zoological Society London (ZSL), we recently welcomed several of our fantastic clients — including Lazari, Zenimax Media, Tripledot Studios, and Revlon — to join us at ZSL London Zoo for a hands-on volunteering day.

Our team of volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help clean out the Pygmy Hippo and Capybara enclosures and prepare winter rations for the Okapi. Working alongside the keepers, the team scrubbed, cleared, and refreshed the moats to ensure these remarkable animals enjoy a safe and comfortable home.

This day offered much more than teamwork and manual effort. It gave our volunteers a close-up view of the global conservation work ZSL leads — including vital projects in Africa to protect endangered species such as the Pygmy Hippo, an EDGE (Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered) species.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who joined us: Katherine Cherry, Justyna Mielniczek, Ella Rule, Kris Myers, Jasmine Justin, Laura Leeson, Joao Correira, and Michal Manjura. We truly appreciate your enthusiasm and commitment.

We are also grateful to the outstanding team at ZSL for hosting us and sharing more about their impactful sustainability and conservation work. We’re proud to support your mission and play a small part in protecting wildlife for generations to come.

Why Conservation Volunteering Days Like This Matter

Modern zoos are far more than places to observe animals. They are hubs of conservation, research, and education — all vital to protecting our planet’s biodiversity.

With only an estimated 2,000–2,500 pygmy hippos remaining in the wild, their survival is threatened by habitat loss and hunting. Through fieldwork, conservation breeding programmes, and global awareness, organisations like ZSL are helping species like this recover.

For our team, the day was about more than cleaning an enclosure. It supported the wider work ZSL is doing to:

  • Protect endangered species and their habitats

  • Educate the public about biodiversity and sustainability

  • Inspire action for a better, more resilient future

At Endersham, caring for the environments where people work, learn, and live goes hand in hand with caring for the natural world. This aligns with our wider commitment to sustainability, whether we are delivering environmentally friendly cleaning services, sustainable commercial cleaning services, or broader facilities services that support our clients’ operational and environmental goals.

Supporting conservation is part of our belief that protecting wildlife means protecting our shared future.
