Endersham Goes Behind the Scenes at London Zoo

As part of our ongoing partnership with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), members of the Endersham team recently enjoyed an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of London Zoo, providing insight into the care, expertise and resource planning required to support one of the world’s leading conservation organisations.

The visit offered a unique opportunity to learn more about a number of incredible species, including Asian short-clawed otters, okapi, pygmy hippos and Humboldt penguins. Guided by ZSL’s expert team, we gained a deeper understanding of the day-to-day operations that help ensure animal welfare while supporting vital conservation efforts across the UK and around the world.

Behind every well maintained habitat is a significant amount of planning, coordination and resource management. We learned about the extensive work involved in sourcing food, equipment and other essential materials, as well as the ongoing monitoring required to create environments where animals can thrive. Every detail plays an important role in supporting the wellbeing of the animals.

We also gained an insight into the importance of animal enrichment. By creating carefully designed stimulating environments and activities tailored to individual species, ZSL helps encourage natural behaviours and supports the animals’ physical and mental wellbeing. This commitment to continuous improvement and high standards of care for the animals resonated strongly with our team.
The tour concluded with a visit to Penguin Beach’s filtration plant, where an advanced recirculating system continuously cleans the water used by the Humboldt penguin colony. The system helps minimise water consumption while maintaining excellent living conditions for the animals and a high-quality visitor experience.
As a provider of commercial cleaning and facilities services in London, we understand the importance of maintaining safe, clean and sustainable environments. Visiting London Zoo highlighted how effective operational management supports both wellbeing and long-term environmental goals.

We would like to thank Lauren Jones, Nicola Kemp and the wider ZSL team for sharing their expertise and giving us such a memorable insight into their work. We are proud to support ZSL and look forward to future opportunities to contribute through volunteering, fundraising and partnership initiatives.
